World Book Day 2024 + MORE!

World Book Day is Thursday 7th March. However, there's even more news...

Book Fair (Tuesday 20th Feb - Friday 23rd Feb)

From Tuesday 20th February until Friday 23rd February, we will be hosting a Book Fair. There will be hundreds of books available to buy, starting from just £2.99. The books are a mixture of exciting new titles and classics that are suitable for a range of ages.

(Download the fullsize posters at the bottom of this page)

During the school day, all children will get a chance to visit the book fair to browse the selection of books available.

The books will be available to purchase between 3.10pm and 3.40pm in the KS1 hall. Please drop in either before you collect your child or come in with them after school.

We will be giving out World Book Day Tokens on Monday 19th February, worth £1, and they can be redeemed against any books over £2.99!

The book fair will be cashless and purchases will be made by scanning a QR code on your phone and following the instructions on the screen.

Please come along and support us. School will receive free books when you purchase books at the book fair!

Competition Time!

We are also launching a competition for five lucky winners to win a £5 voucher to be spent at the book fair. The competition ties in with our World Book Day plans (which are outlined below). We are going to be publishing an online Grendon Magazine which each class will contribute different pages to. To try and win a voucher, all the children have to do is to design a front cover for the magazine, using the title WE CAN and using some inspiration from the list below.

Entries must be in by Monday 19th February at the latest.

World Book Day

On Thursday 7th March it will be World Book Day and, as previously mentioned, part of our celebrations we will be publishing our very own Grendon magazine called WE CAN.

This will be available soon HERE!

Each class will be responsible for producing their own pages on different themes for the magazine. To do this, the children will first read similar pages in magazines, then they will plan/research/make and, finally, create their pages ready for publishing. Some pages from each class will feature in our online version that will be found on the school website and some will be made into a class magazine for the class book box.

This is what the focus for their class page will be:

RW – Craft pages
1C – Book reviews
1T – Fun facts
2B – Top 10 lists
2P – News report
3H – Comic strips
3J – Record breaking attempts
4M – Poems
4G – Recipes
5F- Sport
5H- Gardening section
6N – Travel guide
6B – School stories

On World Book Day, children can come to school dressed as their favourite book character or, where possible (and they would prefer), something linked to their class pages (e.g. 4G could come as chefs).

We are asking for a donation of £1 to dress up. This should be paid using SchoolMoney and can be paid from today.

Throughout the day we will keep you updated through posts on Facebook, so make sure you keep an eye out to see what all the classes are up to.

If you have any children’s magazines at home that you no longer want, please can you donate them to school. Please send them into your child’s class teacher or give them to any of the teachers on duty in the playground each morning.

Please support us in these two exciting events to get Grendon reading even more!

Wheelers eBooks

Please don’t forget all the things we already do to promote reading outside the curriculum as well. We have Wheelers eBooks, where you will find loads of new titles that are constantly being updated. Also, if you make it onto the Top 10 readers board, you get a house point! Further information can be found HERE.

School Library

The library is also open before school from 8.10am - 8.20am (no entrance after this time).

Just to note, there will be a slight change of days for after half-term:

Mondays - Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6
Tuesdays - Y1 and Y2
Thursdays – Siblings that are unable to attend any other day.

If you are unable to attend the library, but would like to borrow a book, let Miss Clarke or Miss. Caro know and they will try to help!
