Attendance

WE ARE A SPOTLIGHT SCHOOL.

Raising the awareness of the importance of children’s attendance!

A parent was recently fined for failing to bring their child to school

At our school we believe that excellent attendance (100% or as near as possible) can be achieved when staff, parents and children work together in partnership.

We work with a variety of outside agencies to ensure children receive their educational entitlement, offer families support and meet our attendance targets.

We believe that children who are regularly late and have poor attendance are being denied their equal opportunities and are not able to reach their potential.

If children are not in school they cannot enjoy and achieve.

School expects parents, carers and children to

  • Make every effort to ensure children attend school every day that it is open and on time.
  • Be in their lines waiting to start school at 8.55am.
  • Accompany their child to collect a ‘Late Slip’ from the School Office if they arrive after 9.00am.
  • Provide a reason for lateness and absences giving medical evidence when asked.
  • Notify school of absence by 9.30am giving a reason for absence.
  • Not take children out of school during term time for holidays. Where you believe you have an exceptional reason you must make an appointment to discuss your request via the School Office.
  • Make an appointment to discuss any concerns with staff and give school the opportunity to resolve anything you are concerned about.
  • Allow their children access to medical professionals and agencies who work with school to ensure their children can attend.

Illness

If your child has a medical condition you will need to inform the School Office and provide evidence of the illness. If your child requires medicine please complete a medical form at the School Office. We will give children medicine in special circumstances and where medical advice requires us to.

Inhalers must be clearly labelled and in date, they must contain sufficient medicine to keep your child safe and we require an inhaler to be left in school at ALL times.

We follow guidance from the Health Protection Agency regarding childhood illnesses. We will share relevant information and guidance with you when we need to.

We ask that contact school to advise us if your child is too poorly to attend school by 9.30am.

Nursery Attendance

We hope that parents will make every effort to bring their child to nursery each day.

Please let us know if your child is too ill to attend, especially if they are going to be away for a number of days.

If your child has:

a)      SICKNESS and/or DIARRHOEA- please keep him/her at home for two days

b)      HEADLICE/NITS –Unfortunately children and adults sometimes get these and the condition must be treated immediately. PLEASE TELL US.

All children must be brought to nursery and collected by an adult.

Nursery children are NOT ALLOWED to come or go home with older brothers or sisters from the school.

Let us know if someone different will be collecting your child or if there is someone who must NOT be allowed to collect him/her.
