Grendon Primary

Admission Arrangements

Children are admitted to the school according to the Birmingham Education Guidelines.

Children are admitted in September at the start of the academic year in which they will reach five years of age, or later if their parents wish.

Nursery admissions are in line with Birmingham Education guideline. Priority is given to looked after children, siblings of children currently at Grendon and finally on age of the child. We operate a staggered intake of children over a 3 week period. This ensures that children are more settled and that staff have the opportunity to understand the needs of each individual.

Curriculum and assessment policies which track the child’s development begins in the Nursery class and continue throughout the Infant and Junior school.  Over 80% of pupils attending the Nursery continue their primary education at Grendon.  This continuity eases the transition through the phases.

Parents may apply for a Nursery place by registering the name on our waiting list.  In the term preceding admission the parents of the children on the waiting list will be invited for an initial interview.  Depending on demand, priority of placement will be given to siblings, and children living locally.

To assist curriculum development and assessment we will expect our children to remain in the school from the age of 3 years until 11 years.  However, it should be noted that the offer of a nursery place does not guarantee an offer of a place in the main school when a child is 5 years old.

Admission Procedure

Home visits are optional and are offered to parents at the registration meeting. They take place during the first two days of the Autumn Term and can be beneficial for settling your child into the nursery environment.

Starting nursery can be an upsetting time; therefore Grendon Nursery operates a staggered intake of children over a two week period. This enables children to settle and become familiar with the nursery environment.

You are welcome to come into the nursery when you bring your child. Please try to be prompt when collecting your child, as your children get upset if they are left waiting.
