Junior Leaders Day News

As you would have read before the Easter break, the Junior Leaders held a meeting about the next steps with helping reduce the traffic around the school site. The children voted on the next actions and felt that a whole school event would highlight the numbers of cars being used to travel to school.

We understand that not every family would be able to walk to school due to the distances involved. However, where possible we would like you to walk, cycle, scoot or use public transport to get to school on Thursday 29th April 2021.

Sustrans Big Pedal

To coincide with the Junior Leader event there is a nationwide challenge called ‘Sustrans Big Pedal’. This is where schools can choose to take part in walking, cycling, scooting to school for two weeks or take part in a one day challenge. We have opted to take part in the one day challenge this year. Therefore, for every parent and child that walks, scoots, cycles or uses public transport to get to school on Thursday 29th April their participation will count towards the school’s overall total.

Daily prize draws

Schools will be entered into a daily prize draw for rewards including equipment and accessories if over 15% of the school community cycle, walk, wheel or scoot on that day of the challenge.

At the time of writing this letter, 1468 schools are currently registered to take part in the event and 504,788 pupils. I wonder how many children and adults can walk, cycle or scoot to school on Thursday 29th April?

On behalf of the Junior Leaders, I would like to say thank you in advance for supporting the children with their whole school event idea.

Kind regards
