Letter from the Governors
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to introduce myself as the new elected Chair of Governors at Grendon Primary School. My name is Joanne Baker and I have been part of the governing body since 2016 when I was appointed as a Parent Governor.
I would like to say thank you to our previous Chair of Governors, Carina Monnelly-Owen for all of her hard work and commitment to Grendon over the last 10 years. She will continue to support the Governing Board as Vice Chair of Governors.
My specific role in the last 4 years have been as a Safeguarding, Send, Pastoral, Pupil Premium, & Staffing Governor and in the last year as Vice Chair of Governors. Throughout this period, I have been committed to improving the education not only for my own child but for every pupil and future pupils.
I have worked in the education sector for the past 13 years as both Pastoral staff and Business Administration staff and gained a wealth of skill and knowledge in School Procedures and Management.
I hope to use this knowledge to support Grendon by continuing to work with Mrs Ridley, Staff, Governors, Parents and Pupils as we all together strive to make our school an outstanding school for all.
Being a chair of governors is a key role in the leadership and management of the school.
An effective chair of governors must cover the following key areas:
- Works with the headteacher to promote and maintain high standards of educational achievement
- Ensures that the governing body sets a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school
- With the governing body holds the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and for the performance management of staff
- Ensures oversight of the financial performance of the school and effective use of the school resources
As Governors we also share a common objective which is the wider school community – working in partnership with you as parents and carers and staff to ensure that every child can succeed and reach their full potential. To achieve this, and to carry out our role as Governors effectively, we need to know what issues are important to you (so we remain responsive) and ensure that you know what issues Governors are discussing (so that we remain accountable).
I think that the most important thing to note is that Governors are a team, not a collection of individuals or groups with separate agendas. However much we may differ in our opinions and experiences, we are united by our commitment to the school and the responsibility we share for the school’s long-term success.
All relevant information is included on the School’s Website. Please remember that the website is a good way of keeping up to date with all aspects of school life. If you have a concern or a point of view to share please let us know. We can be contacted via the School Office or by e-mail: CoG@grendon.bham.sch.uk
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the coming months and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support to our school.
With best wishes
Chair of Governors
