Whole School Day - DT

Possible Blue Peter badge opportunity!

When is it?
Thursday 12th June 2025

What is the theme of the day?
The children will be taking part in an exciting and engaging day as they put their creative skills to the test. Using the Grendon Goal of 'resilience' alongside their ‘We Can’ attitude, the aim of the day will be for the children to plan, make and evaluate their very own pencil cases.

Design - this is an opportunity for the children to be as creative as possible, practising their artistic skills. The children will investigate different types of pencil cases, then plan, sketch and annotate their own designs.

Make - the children will then use their resilience and practical skills of cutting, sticking and sewing to make their products.

Evaluate - finally, the children will evaluate their pencil cases, having the opportunity to discuss what worked well. What didn’t? What would they do differently?

Reception - Year Three
Reception to Year 3 will be designing a roll-up pencil case that will focus on developing DT skills such as designing, making, cutting, sticking and the use of Velcro.

Years Four - Six
Years 4 to 6 will be designing a sewn pencil case that will focus on developing DT skills such as designing, making, cutting, sticking and sewing different materials.

Blue Peter Badges
The children may choose to enter their pencil case designs, for the opportunity to possibly earn a Blue Peter Badge. If your child wishes to enter their design, you will need to click THIS LINK and follow the instructions.

• Create a My Blue Peter Account.
• Take a picture of your child with their pencil case.
• Each child will need to write about what they have made, how they have made it and any skills they learnt along the way and quite how much resilience they needed.

Best wishes and happy designing! Miss James and Miss Broughton
